The Chemistry Department Welcomes 2 New Faculty

Deacon ChemistThe Chemistry Department has hired two new tenure track assistant professors this week, Dr. Elham Ghadiri and Dr. Troy Stich.
Dr. Ghadiri got her BS and MS in Physics at Arak University in Iran, then her PhD in Chemistry at the Swiss Polytechnic Federal University.  Most recently she has been a postdoctoral fellow in Biomedical Engineering and Material Science at Duke.  Dr. Ghadiri will mostly teach inorganic and materials chemistry related classes for us and she is an expert in nanomaterials , photochemistry, solar energy conversion and laser spectroscopy.
Dr. Stich got his BS in Chemistry at Carnegie Mellon then his PhD in Chemistry at Wisconsin and most recently has been a postdoctoral fellow and research scientist at UC-Davis.  Dr. Stich will teach biochemistry and biophysical chemistry for us and he is an expert in electron paramagnetic resonance, particulary pulsed EPR and its use in characterizing transition metal active sites in metalloenzymes and the organic radicals that are also generated there.
(This brings the number of Wisconsin PhDs currently in the department to 5.)
