Mentoring Program
The Friends of Chemistry is implementing a mentoring program in which alumni are paired with existing students for the purpose of communicating about career choices and expectations.
If you are an alumnus who would be willing to share career insights with a current student, please send an email to Christa Colyer (colyercl@wfu.edu). As you probably know, we have a lot of pre-med students, so we’d especially encourage physician alumni to participate.
If you are a student who is currently making career decisions and wants the insight of alumni who have navigated the same choices, please send an email to Christa Colyer (colyercl@wfu.edu). The FoC network complements other great Wake Forest career resources, such as the OPCD, by providing direct mentorship.

Wake Forest also offers a self paced online mentoring skills certificate program each year between February 1 and March 1. It’s free and open to alums and we would welcome you promoting it to other alums.
This is the link to register for 2023. When you sign up you’ll need to create a canvas account and the course will open each year Feb 1 and close March 1. So you have the full month to get through the modules. The Office of Personal and Career Development will provide feedback at the end on a short reflection and then send you a certificate. The primary point of contact for this program in that office is Lauren Beam, beamlr@wfu.edu.
Below is an example of the course descriptor for 2023.
February 1-March 1, 2023 | Online Introductory Mentoring Skills Certificate Course
This self-paced course is designed as an introduction to skills and strategies used by effective mentors and mentees. We will also explore tools that will help you build and maintain your mentoring network. At the end of this course, you should be better equipped with the language and tools for engaging in mentoring relationships and conversations both personally and professionally. Please register by January 27, 2023 at 11:59pm. Space is limited to the first 100 participants that enroll. We are not able to accept ongoing enrollments while the course is in session. The course content will be available in Canvas from February 1, 2023 until 11:59pm on March 1, 2023
